This
is an Antique Mandalian Mfg. Co., Metal Mesh Purse featuring chain link
fringe and Art Deco design popular in the 1920s. The Mandalian Mfg. Co.
of Massachusetts was founded by Turkish immigrant Sahatiel Mandalian
and many of the colorful ornate designs reflect his heritage. Whiting
& Davis bought out the company in 1944.
The
flat silhouette, Art Deco geometric design and chain-link bottom fringe
are typical of 1920s fashions. Snap-closure frames were made of plated
metal.
This Mesh Purse is in good shape except for some missing fringe, the lining is still inside but it is tattered.
