M907M Delion, Paris Colapsible Top-Hat.  Chapeau claque was invented in 1812. The name comes from French and means roughly "hat slams"
This kind of top-hat can be folded and taken up again by action of a spring mechanism.
This chapeau claque is made by A. Delion, 24 Boulevard des Capucines, Paris. This company became famous for their hats and is represented in museums throughout the world. This chapeau claque is made of silk satin and is fully lined. It was made around 1900 and is in very good condition.
