M801M Lovely Axel Holmsen Brooch. Axel Holmsen orchid brooch-in 925 silver and enamel. It measures 6.00 cm wide and 5.00 cm high. It is in excellent condition. Aksel Holmsen was trained by David Andersen from 1889 to 1892 in filingree work. He completed his journeyman's piece in 1901 and continued to work for David Andersen until 1904.
Then he established a silver and enamel workshop at Storgaten 7 in Oslo. He was officially licensed in 1906.
The workshop was a major supplier of enamel goods and later silver and silverplated hollyware. Holmsen's son Ivar, joined the campany in 1942 and he became its chairman in 1950.
The company was closed in 1971.
