M541M 1860-70s Horn Fan with Beauty in Period Dress.
Fan sticks are 10.5 inches long and made from horn. Upper part of sticks are decorated with pierced work, designs and floral. Fan measures 25 inches open. When open the sticks are pierced and on every other one there is small gilt set of three leaves. The leaf of the fan depicts a stage play. Five figures in center stand on wooden flooring, table and chairs and buildings in background. Man in center holding hat and cape. They are dressed in pseudo Shakespearean clothing. On flip side a woman leans up against a staircase dressed in a lovely hand painted pink gown, style of the late 1860’s, small dog at her feet, rose bushes on each side, urns on edges of staircase. Condition in good though there are a few places in the creases of the fan that have split. The largest is 3” with another 2” one. TB
