This eyecatching and collectable item bears the name of one of the most renowned makers of mesh bags - the Mandalian Manufacturing Company. The company was founded by Sahatiel Gabrabed Mandalian, who was born in Turkey in 1869, and who emigrated to the United States of America in 1889. After settling and marrying in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, Mandalian formed a business partnership, and the company (called Casper and Mandalian after its owners) initially made jewellery. Following a change of partner and name (to Mandalian & Hawkins) in 1906, the company began to specialise in the manufacture of mesh bags. By 1915, Mandalian & Hawkins was one of the most important mesh bag producers in America; it was in this year that Mandalian purchased his partner's share of the company, which then became known as the Mandalian Manufacturing Company. The company took pride in adopting innovative design and production techniques for its mesh bags, with the aim of delivering high quality items. Its bags tended to be decorated with ornate and colourful floral motifs, or alternatively, patterns reminiscent of those seen on Turkish carpets (inspired by the owner's heritage). Mandalian produced mesh bags only for a relatively short period, and the company was sold to the leading American mesh bag maker -  Whiting & Davis - in 1944. Its founder died five years later
